On January 17, 2026, the Archdiocese of Cuttack–Bhubaneswar celebrated the episcopal ordination of Most Rev. Rabindra Kumar Ranasingh as Auxiliary Bishop. Held at St. John’s School Ground in Daringbadi, the event was described by Archbishop John Barwa as a “historic day written in golden letters.”
A Milestone for the Local Church
The ordination marks a significant moment for the Kandhamal region. Archbishop Barwa highlighted the Bishop’s roots in this “soil of martyrs,” noting that his rise to the College of Bishops is a sign of hope for a land once scarred by persecution. The ceremony was attended by:

• 500+ Priests and religious leaders.
• Dignitaries from across Odisha, Kolkata, and Chhattisgarh.
The Ordination Rite
The liturgy followed the Apostolic appointment issued by Pope Leo XIV. The rite included:
1. The Promise: The Bishop-elect’s resolve to preserve the faith and serve the People of God.
2. The Consecration: The laying on of hands and anointing with Sacred Chrism.
3. The Investiture: The handing over of the ring and pastoral staff, symbolizing his new role as a shepherd.
